Suyo Long is an heirloom cucumber variety originally from northern China that is hot weather tolerant and widely adapted. Hardy, productive vines produce dark green, 15 to 18 inch long fruits that are sweet and crisp. Does not require a pollinator as nearly every flower produced will be female, making it a great choice for greenhouse or container growing.

Start cucumbers indoors about 2 weeks before the last spring frost, sowing the seeds 1/2 inch deep in small, individual peat pots. Use a heat mat to keep the soil temperature above 70°F and a humidity dome to ensure the soil stays moist between watering. Germination should occur within 7 to 14 days.
When the danger of frost has passed and the cucumber seedlings have developed their second set of true leaves, plant the seedlings 36 to 60 inches apart (or 12 inches apart if you're using a trellis) in a location with full sun and rich soil. Water frequently and consider applying mulch or straw around the base of the plant to retain moisture in the soil.
