Germination Tips

01. Storing Your Seeds

Heat and moisture will shorten the life of your seeds, so once you receive your seed packets, be sure to store them in a cool, dry, and dark location. A drawer, cabinet, or seed storage box are the perfect place to keep your seeds safe.

Cucumbers

Start cucumbers indoors about 2 weeks before the last spring frost, sowing the seeds 1/2 inch deep in small, individual peat pots. Use a heat mat to keep the soil temperature above 70°F, and a humidity dome to ensure the soil stays moist between watering. Germination should occur within 7 to 14 days.

When the danger of frost has passed and the cucumber seedlings have developed their second set of true leaves, plant the seedlings 36 to 60 inches apart (or 12 inches apart if you're using a trellis) in a location with full sun and rich soil. Water frequently and consider applying mulch or straw around the base of the plant to retain moisture in the soil.
